Yosemite National Park, California 2008 -- At center is BridalVeil Falls (not a very imaginative name since it's used in many states where falls resemble bridal veils, including part of Niagara Falls.) Note that above the falls is a river valley. This stream fed the Merced River below. When the glaciers lowered the Merced Valley, they were kinder to the BridalVeil creek. Therefore the water had nowhere to go but straight down -- 620 feet.
